Membership

Membership is open to women no less than 16 years of age who are blood descendants, lineal or collateral, of men and women who served honorably in the Army, Navy or Civil Service of the Confederate States of America, or gave Material Aid to the Cause.

No Confederate ancestor who took the Oath of Allegiance before April 9, 1865, shall be eligible to be used for application for membership. If proof of further Confederate service is available, thereby nullifying the Oath of Allegiance, the ancestor shall be considered for approval.

Becoming a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy is privilege and opportunity to preserve and share the history of the War.

Member:  The term “member” is defined as a woman whose Original Membership application has been approved by General and who has a lineal or collateral ancestor who participated in the War Between the States in a military capacity or aided the cause.

Associate Member: Chapters may bestow this honor upon women over age 16 who, although ineligible for membership, wish to be associated with the UDC.

The local UDC body is a Chapter. A Division is the statewide organization composed of Chapters. A Chapter Where No Division (CWND) is the term for a Chapter in a state (or foreign country/territory) where there are not sufficient Chapters to have a Division. General is the term for the national organization.
